History of Turbocharging

Turbos don’t have to cost an arm and a leg! They have been around since the early 1900’s.
Swiss mechanical engineer Alfred Buchi applied for the first practical turbocharger patent in 1896! GE was mass producing Turbos in the 1900’s! In the 1920’s the first turbocharged plane was tested, shortly followed by turbo appearances in ships and locomotives! It wasn’t long before turbos were appearing on agricultural tractors, and in the 1960’s the first cars received turbos (although they had reliability issues). *1
